About the painting:
I love watching daffodils bloom and look towards the sun after a long winter. They are a bright yellow signal that spring is on it's way. I wanted to capture their simple beauty in black and white.
I used HB, 4B, 5B, and 8B graphite pencils on creamy white vellum paper. I've added a photo of the work in progress. I start with a loose sketch of shapes using reference photos taken from my yard, and then begin to add the details. I kept the drawing to a rough 5 x 7 inch space and then opted to use a slightly larger matting to focus the eye on the drawing.
